I wanted to create a bathroom design in our showroom to showcase an example of my work. With the use of tile, light, mirror, and structure, I wanted to break open a space which was originally a square box without a window. Rather than create a typical bathroom, I wanted to create an environmental mood, a room that is a brief escape from the everyday reality around it.
When entering the powder room, one feels transported by a sense of intergalactic time travel and non-finite possibilities. The design broke open a space which was originally a square box without a window. Dimension was created with large tile, mirrors, and a pyramid shaped ceiling to make the space feel expansive almost endless. The mirrors aligned with the tile, create the illusion of open space. The illuminated angles split the room into light and a dark sector. LED lights embedded in the varying colored tiles, create dimension. Wavy tiles for an accent wall, gave a softened watery feel to a room which had rigid angles.
When entering this powder room one experiences the sense of an art installation, which in turn opens your mind to the many infinite directions design can go. Although it is a box with no windows, you do not have the sense of an enclosed space. The high-tech polished porcelain creates a dramatic effect with a sanitary appeal and combines energy efficient LED lighting with a low flow toilet. The multi-colored, round Murano sink vessel, creates the added effect of a rainbow prism within fragmented quartz crystal.
